At Soroi Blue in Diani, you can snorkel right off the beach, spend the afternoon by the pool, and if the timing is right, watch turtle hatchlings make their way down the sand to the sea.

The Rooms

Every room is named after a location on the Kenyan coast: Lamu, Wasini, Shimoni, Kaskazi. Garden-facing or ocean-facing, choose your side. Upstairs, Shimoni and Zanzibar are lofts, with a sleeping level above the main room, and Bahari Blue is two interconnected rooms with its own ocean-facing veranda. Kusini, the honeymoon suite, has a star bed on its balcony.

The Beach

A day bed, a coconut, and nothing between you and the Indian Ocean. Out here, the tide sets the pace.

The Frangipani Spa

Slow down in a treatment room built from stone and bamboo, lit by lamplight. Choose a massage, a facial or a body treatment, and take as long as you like.

A Dining Experience

A Table At The Water’s Edge

Fresh seafood, cooked the way it has been on the Swahili coast for generations. Eat on the sand with the sea behind you. If you’d like the evening to yourselves, ask for private dining.

Beyond The Beach

When The Sand Begins To Move

Their First Run

A few centimetres long, they push up through the sand and head for the sea. Nobody schedules it, and no one can tell you the night. The hatchery is on our own beach. Hatchlings usually emerge after dark and steer by the brightest horizon, which on a quiet beach is the sea. If it happens, you’ll want to be on the sand.

Good to Know

Most turtles nesting on Kenya’s coast are green turtles. Their eggs spend about two months in the sand, and its warmth decides whether each hatchling is male or female. After dark, give them space and keep your torch off and your flash in your pocket. Light is the one thing that can send them the wrong way.

Out On The Reef

The water is warm and clear all year, and from October to March the reef is at its healthiest and most colourful.

Wasini Island & Kisite

Sail south at first light to Kisite-Mpunguti Marine National Park, one of the finest snorkelling sites on the African coast. Dolphins often join the crossing. Then on to car-free Wasini Island, where lunch is crab, coconut rice and fresh seafood on a terrace above the sea. Lunch and snorkelling gear are included.
