| As the grape harvest season approaches, several wineries in Friuli Venezia Giulia that are part of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Wine and Taste Route are once again offering educational harvest experiences. Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in the grape harvest, meet local winemakers and learn first-hand about the techniques they use, from assessing grape ripeness to understanding the different stages of the harvest process.
Designed for a broad audience, the educational grape harvest offers activities to suit a variety of interests. Wine experts, families with children and wine lovers alike can experience the unique atmosphere of the grape harvest first-hand by choosing the programme that best suits their interests. Wine enthusiasts can gain technical insights into the winemaking process and enjoy guided tastings of selected wines, while families can experience a simple yet engaging activity that is also suitable for younger children. DOC Friuli Colli Orientali – Colutta Scheduled according to the optimal ripening of the grapes and available on request, this experience begins with grape picking in the vineyard before moving to the winery to discover the first stages of vinification. The day concludes with a tasting of the estate’s wines paired with regional specialities.
DOC Friuli Colli Orientali – Conte d’Attimis-Maniago Wine and history enthusiasts will enjoy a unique experience at the Conte d’Attimis-Maniago estate in Buttrio. From 28 August to 30 September, participants will be guided through the property’s historic vineyards and its sixteenth-century underground cellar, where they will take part in a wine tasting. DOC Friuli Colli Orientali – Elio Vini Harvest days are scheduled for 12, 19 and 26 September in Grupignano, near Cividale del Friuli, where participants will be welcomed by winemaker Franco Venica, who will introduce the estate before leading them into the vineyard for the harvest. DOC Friuli Grave – Gelindo dei Magredi Ideal for families, this experience will take place on 30 August and 5, 13 and 19 September in Vivaro. Participants will be accompanied by a horse-drawn carriage to the Vigna del Paradis vineyard, where they will take part in the grape harvest. DOC Collio – Gradis’ciutta Those wishing to discover what it means to work entirely under organic farming methods will be able to take part in the educational grape harvest at this winery in the heart of the Collio DOC on 12 September. After the experience in the vineyard among the rows, participants will continue with a guided tour of the winery and a tasting of selected wines.
DOC Friuli Colli Orientali – Le Due Torri During the third and fourth weekends of September, participants will harvest grapes, visit the winery to learn about the first stages of vinification and conclude the day with a wine-paired dinner. DOC Friuli Grave – Tonutti During the harvest season, Agriturismo Tonutti in Adegliacco welcomes visitors to experience the authentic atmosphere of grape picking. After working among the vines and learning about the first stages of transforming grapes into must, the day will end with the traditional harvest workers’ lunch, celebrating the convivial spirit and flavours of the region.

Through PromoTurismoFVG and the regional coordination of the Città del Vino National Association, in 2023 Friuli Venezia Giulia became the first Italian region to sign a memorandum of understanding to promote the educational grape harvest experience and further enhance the region’s tourism offering.
