What do Hollywood and Saxony-Anhalt have in common? Castles and palaces, spectacular natural landscapes and picturesque towns as great film sets – just: in Saxony-Anhalt they are real! But the state is not only a popular backdrop for film productions, it has also blossomed into a versatile travel destination. And since the autumn holidays are just around the corner, we would like to recommend some of the most beautiful and exciting experiences to families, couples and of course individual travelers. You can find a wide range of excursion tips from „truly active” to „truly family-friendly” in our new press kit, in which we have put together a selection of the best travel destinations.

While the south in the Saale-Unstrut region inspires not only filmmakers with its impressive castles, palaces and pristine landscapes, the Harz offers above all pristine landscapes with mountain forests, meadows and moors. Caves, tunnels and shaft systems bear witness to a mining tradition that goes back over 3,000 years, and away from the cities, centrally located in the heart of Germany, you can find peace and relaxation on long hikes.

If you want to enjoy the autumn landscape to the fullest, you should definitely take a detour to Stolberg in the southern Harz. This charming half-timbered town, surrounded by colorful deciduous forests, is also called the „Pearl of the Harz”. A visit to Stolberg Castle, whose garden is part of the „Garden Dreams – Historic Gardens and Parks in Saxony-Anhalt” initiative, rounds off the experience.

The Altmark region is a real highlight for families. Here, a digital Hanseatic tour invites you to discover the region’s eight historic Hanseatic cities. With the Altmark Active app, travelers can embark on an exciting challenge. There are sights to explore in every city and at the end there is a small reward for everyone who has collected all the stations. Alternatively, there is a brochure with a puzzle tour, where local mascots lead you through the Hanseatic cities.

If you like something a little sweeter, you should visit the Halloren Adventure World in Halle (Saale). The oldest chocolate factory in Germany invites you on a fascinating journey into the world of chocolate production. Visitors can not only learn everything about the traditional art of chocolate, but also get creative themselves – a special experience that stimulates the imagination, especially at Halloween time.

History buffs will also get their money’s worth in Saxony-Anhalt: The state exhibition „Gerechtigkeyt 1525” commemorates the German Peasants’ War and the reformer Thomas Müntzer in several presentations. History is brought to life at five locations in Halle and the Mansfeld-Südharz region, the center of the uprising at the time. The exhibition offers a deep insight into an eventful chapter of German history. Already now, months before the anniversary year 2025, the interactive exhibition of the Luther Museums in Eisleben and Mansfeld has opened, where the events of 1525 can be recreated in an unusual way: A large walk-in game board allows visitors to slip into the roles of those involved at the time and experience the time immediately before the uprising from different perspectives.
