Families travelling around Europe are being urged to familiarise themselves with international emergency phone numbers before heading on their holiday.

Travel experts at StressFreeCarRental.com are encouraging travellers to make a note of emergency service phone numbers of the country they are travelling to.

For most people holiday preparations involve packing and checking passports but travellers are missing one very important piece of information.

Knowing emergency phone numbers for your chosen destination is key for ensuring a safe trip.

In the unfortunate event of an accident or robbery it’s important to know who to call to get the proper help.

European countries tend to share the same emergency service number which is the same for all three services – police, ambulance and fire.

However there are other countries who have separate numbers for each service.

John Charnock, CEO of StressFreeCarRental.com said: “If you’re travelling with your family this year it’s really important to keep a note of the emergency number for the countries you’re visiting.

“Most people won’t think to do this before going abroad because there are so many other things to think about but if an emergency does occur knowing the right number to call can help save lives.

“For most European countries the emergency number tends to be the same but it’s always worth just double checking just in case. You can easily find this information yourself online or ask a travel provider, your hotel or your host for your accommodation.

“We’ve compiled a list of common travel destinations and their emergency numbers.

“The easiest thing to do is to save the number in your phone so that if you do need it, you’ll have it at hand.”
