 May 22, City Tuning

A car radio in a traffic jam, demolition without a permit, the echo of a siren in the distance. A clarinet solo from the scaffolding on the corner. A brass band at the traffic light plays every time the light turns green. A string quartet in the underpass endlessly tunes to A minor. The trombone section plays a sonata to the rhythm of children’s swings. One hundred musicians, two hundred children, thirty bicycles, and two fire trucks try to maintain a long unison in the square.
