Following the announcement of its first Green Ship 2.0 newbuild at the end of 2025, TT-Line has now confirmed the order of a second vessel of the same class (sister vessel). Together, the two next-generation LNG-hybrid ferries mark another major milestone in TT-Line’s long-term fleet renewal and sustainability strategy.
Like the first Green Ship 2.0, the second newbuild will be constructed by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Nanjing, continuing TT-Line’s successful cooperation with one of the world’s leading ferry shipbuilders. The first vessel is expected to enter service on the Baltic Sea before summer 2030.
Building on the excellent customer Feedback and operational performance of the Green Ships NILS HOLGERSSON and PETER PAN, the two Green Ships 2.0 have been designed to significantly increase transport capacity while further enhancing operational efficiency, environmental performance and passenger comfort.
Each vessel is designed to accommodate up to 1000 persons on board. Freight capacity will increase to 5,400 lane meters per vessel, enabling TT-Line to meet the growing demand for efficient and sustainable freight and passenger transport across the Baltic Sea.
Both Green Ships 2.0 will feature an advanced LNG-hybrid propulsion system supported by an LFP battery energy storage system with a capacity between 5.5 MWh to 10 MWh. The battery system has been designed to enable fully electric propulsion and can be further scaled with additional batteries in the future. Dedicated, fully equipped further battery rooms and a future-ready electrical architecture will support continued technological development and increasing electrification throughout the vessels’ operational lifetime.
The integration of a battery energy storage system will allow for silent and emission-free operation during port stays and manoeuvring. Combined with advanced Power-Take-In and Power-Take-Out technology, the hybrid propulsion arrangement will optimize energy consumption, lower peak load requirements, and provide greater operational flexibility. In addition, both vessels will feature enhanced shore power capabilities, facilitating efficient high-capacity battery charging during port calls.
Passengers will enjoy a next generation onboard experience. Each Green Ship 2.0 will feature 300 modern passenger cabins, including new cabin concepts tailored for families, couples and truck drivers. Expanded restaurants and lounges, upgraded crew facilities and a redesigned sun deck with a wellness area including sauna and jacuzzi, children’s playground and a dedicated dog area will further enhance comfort throughout the journey.
