To compile the ranking, around 80 European cities were compared across various categories, including the number of bars and clubs in each city, social media posts about fireworks and New Year’s celebrations, and cost factors such as the price of a three-course dinner for two and a hotel stay on New Year’s Eve.

Berlin ranks first, with nearly half a million social media posts about New Year’s Eve fireworks and an affordable €65 for a typical three-course dinner for two to kick off the night. At midnight, visitors can enjoy an 8-minute fireworks display at the Brandenburg Gate.
Paris follows in second place, boasting nearly 400 bars and clubs to party the night away! The Champs-Élysées offers breathtaking views of a light show at the Arc de Triomphe. A hotel stay in Paris on New Year’s Eve costs around €171, making it a mid-range option.
Madrid takes third place, with the highest number of bars and clubs in the ranking—533 in total! A highlight is the celebration at Puerta del Sol Square, where thousands gather to eat 12 grapes at midnight, following Spanish tradition for good luck.
Sofia, in fourth place, is an excellent choice for a budget-friendly alternative. Although less popular on social media (21,540 posts), the city stands out with low prices for dinner and hotel stays. On average, a double room costs just €66 on New Year’s Eve.
Athens rounds out the top five, with affordable prices, 175 bars and clubs, and over 34,000 social media posts about New Year’s celebrations in the Greek capital!
Cities like Prague (13th) and Budapest (15th) also make the top 15. These typically budget-friendly cities surprise with relatively high hotel prices (€232–€337), likely due to their popularity as renowned party hotspots.
