Hamakua was conceived by Proprietors Lori and Eric Lochtefeld, part-time residents who purchased the property in 2020 while it was in its last year as an award-winning bed & breakfast and just as the pandemic hit. As travel reopened the couple recognized the need for luxury hotel accommodations in the region and in 2023 the process of renovating the plantation style estate and its grounds began.
“We are extremely excited to welcome visitors to the finest hotel experience on the Hāmākua Coast,” said Eric Lochtefeld. “We have assembled an incredibly talented and hospitable team whose priority is providing an exceptional stay for our guests filled with seamless services and Aloha spirit.”
