 ‘The Wonderful Archipelago’

Visitors of the Indonesian pavilion will be taken on a journey through the traditional and modern Indonesian way of life that reflects the local wisdom of living dynamically with nature. The theme ‘The Wonderful Archipelago’ represents the country’s enormous diversity in nature and culture of the more than 17,000 islands. The buildings on the site will include a traditional Indonesian dwelling constructed of sustainable materials, a greenhouse with typical Indonesian plants and trees and a playing field with traditional games to give visitors a fun experience the Indonesian way. “Indonesia also participated in Floriade 2002 and 2012. This experience served not only to present the relationship between the Netherlands and Indonesia in every aspect, but also to promote the ideas and principles for green and sustainability. Indonesia is also forced to live green for a better future.”, His Excellency Mr. Mayerfas, Ambassador of Indonesia in the Netherlands.

Rising sea levels

Life in Indonesia as the world largest archipelago also brings challenges. The threat of rising sea levels is a burning issue for the many islands of Indonesia. The theme of its participation expresses Indonesia’s commitment to protect the archipelago by living sustainably. This theme ties in well with Floriade. “Water management is an important topic for both Indonesia and the Netherlands. The participation of Indonesia in Floriade offers opportunities to work together. We look forward to sharing knowledge and discussing business opportunities. In addition, the presence of Indonesian art and culture enriches the event, ”says Mayor Franc Weerwind.
