But, with accommodation in cities across the continet becoming increasingly expensive, it’s more difficult than ever to book a holiday without breaking the bank.

Porto has the most affordable Airbnbs in Europe
Costing an average of €108.57 a night, Porto offers the most economic accommodation in Europe. A popular summer destination, holidaying in this historic city will cost travellers 17% less than the Portuguese captial, Lisbon (€131.03). Those visiting Madrid in Spain will also have to pay over two thirds (68%) more despite neighbouring Portugal, with a price tag of €183.18 per night on average.
Barcelona takes the silver medal, with Airbnbs costing an average of €129.60 per night. Although accommodation is almost a fifth (19%) more expensive than in Porto, Barcelona remains a cheap choice for a summer holiday. Across the north-eastern border into Lyon, France, travellers will pay 40% more for an Airbnb, with an average cost of €182.07 per night.
Portugal’s capital – Lisbon – is in third, certifying the country as the top destination for travellers on a budget. With Airbnbs costing an average of €131.03 a night, Lisbon’s visitors are paying just 1% more than those in Barcelona, Uswitch.com/mortgages can reveal. Staying in the Portuguese capital is almost a quarter less (22%) than staying in the Italian capital, Rome, with an average cost of €167.26 per night.
