From June 1 to July 31, the granite heights overlooking Marina di Campo will once again be transformed into a wide-open window to the Universe. The striking Piazzale dell’Astronomia in San Piero in Campo will host a special Outdoor Astronomical Evening, an unmissable event designed to make young and old alike dream under the starry early summer sky.
Looking far: observing with professional telescopes
The evenings will offer a unique opportunity to explore deep space. Thanks to the installation of professional telescopes, participants will be able to take a closer look at the most beautiful and brightest stars and celestial bodies visible in the June sky, discovering details impossible to catch with the naked eye.
Technical observation will be complemented by the fascinating Tale of the Sky: a true poetic and scientific guide to the celestial vault. The experts present will guide the audience in recognizing the constellations, revealing the names of the stars and narrating the myths, legends and millennia-old stories that ancient peoples projected among the stars.
A small contribution to a big Elban dream
In addition to being a time of entertainment and outreach, the event has a profound value for the entire island community. At the entrance, in fact, adults will be asked to make a free-will contribution. The entire proceeds of the evening will be donated to support the project to build the first Astronomical Observatory on Elba Island, a scientific and educational garrison that will enrich the cultural heritage of the area.
