APENO – the Portuguese Association of Wine Tourism has announced the performance of the Saint Dominic’s Gospel Choir at the National Wine Tourism Awards Gala 2026, which will take place on 29 May at Quinta Conde de Valadares, in Loures.

The presence of the group — a recognised artistic reference in Gospel music both nationally and internationally — forms part of the gala’s artistic programme and also aims to highlight the growing importance of the North American market for tourism and wine tourism in Portugal.

“The North American market has been one of the fastest-growing markets for Portuguese tourism in recent years, establishing itself today as one of the country’s most strategic international markets. We therefore felt it was important to pay tribute through a musical moment connected to American culture, which naturally creates a strong bond with audiences. It promises to be a very lively evening,” says Maria João de Almeida, President of APENO.

According to TravelBI data, the United States recorded approximately 2.37 million guests, 5.46 million overnight stays and more than €3.1 billion in tourism revenue in 2025, consolidating its position as one of Portugal’s leading source markets. Compared to the pre-pandemic period, the North American market registered one of the most significant increases in Portuguese tourism, with guest numbers standing around 90% above 2019 levels.

Founded on 7 October 2002, the Saint Dominic’s Gospel Choir quickly established itself within the Portuguese music scene and is now regarded as one of the country’s leading Gospel projects. Throughout its journey, the group has achieved both national and international recognition, receiving praise from renowned Gospel figures such as Rev. Milton Biggham, Ricky Dillard and Kirk Franklin.

The choir’s connection to the international Gospel scene has also been strengthened through participation in the GMWA – Gospel Music Workshop of America, considered one of the most important international gatherings in the Gospel music industry. During the pandemic, the group participated in the song “The Best Day”, developed remotely with several international artists, including American singer Shantell Hankerson.

Led by João Castro, the Saint Dominic’s Gospel Choir surpassed the milestone of 1,400 concerts in 2025. With regular performances in concert halls, institutional and corporate events, the group also maintains a strong presence on Portuguese television and has collaborated with several national artists.

The performance forms part of the programme for the National Wine Tourism Awards Gala 2026, an initiative that annually brings together professionals, producers, municipalities, regional tourism boards and companies linked to the wine, tourism and hospitality sectors.

The event recognises projects and initiatives that contribute to the promotion of Portuguese wine tourism, regional identity and wine culture, gathering representatives from various regions across the country.

The 2026 edition will take place at Quinta Conde de Valadares, in Loures, under the High Patronage of His Excellency the President of the Republic.
