Thrill seekers looking for a spooky experience this Halloween are being told of haunted places across Europe they can stay the night this October.
The team at WinstonsBeds.com have revealed some of Europe’s most eerie locations to stay including The Mermaid Inn in England and Dragsholm Slot in Denmark.
Europe is home to some of the oldest places and buildings in the world, many of which come with their own spooky back story and tales of ghost sightings and paranormal activity.
Only the bravest thrill seekers will be willing to stay in the very rooms which allegedly belong to the resident ghosts.
Rebecca Swain, mattress expert at WinstonsBeds.com said: “Real thrill seekers and paranormal fanatics will be excited by the thought of spending a night in some of Europe’s most haunted locations.
“But only the brave or absurd would take it one step further and stay in the very rooms where paranormal activity is said to occur.
“Those looking for a real fright can stay at these locations, some of which are so haunted they have converted non-believers after their stay.
“For a night in one of these locations, be prepared to hear strange noises and see things you’ve never seen before.”
Haunted places to stay in Europe:
- The Mermaid Inn, England
Located in Sussex, England, The Mermaid Inn is believed to be one of the most haunted places in the country. Guests have reported feeling an eerie presence in their rooms, with room 17 specifically being known to often go awfully cold all of a sudden.
The hotel has also had plenty of reports of a “Lady in White” who sits in a chair next to the fireplace in room 1. Guests who leave their clothes on the chair overnight tend to wake up to their garments being completely soaked by the ghost.
- Dragsholm Slot, Denmark
This historic castle in Zealand was once a prison and is said to be home to many ghostly stories. The most infamous one is the tale of The White Lady, Celina Bovles. Celina was the daughter of a noble man and was about to marry into another noble family but before her wedding she fell for a commoner and became pregnant.
When her father found out he chained her to a wall in the basement of the castle where a wall was eventually built around her and she was left to die. Guests report seeing and hearing the White Lady crying for her partner.
- Hotel Bilan, Sweden
Another former prison, Hotel Bilan was first built in the 1800’s with some of its remaining cells in the cellar now turned into a museum. The hotel’s receptionist has reported feeling an invisible obstruction one night after trying to lock up the museum. Guests have also claimed to feel strange rumblings in other parts of the hotel.
- Tulloch Castle, Scotland
Tulloch Castle is believed to have many ghosts but the most popular one is the Green Lady, believed to be Elizabeth Davidson. After catching her father with the castle’s maid, Elizabeth ran back to her room, (room 15) tripped down the stairs and broke her neck.
The Green Lady has been captured on film in the past and paranormal teams who have inspected the castle have reported balls of light, cold spots and constant noise and bangs with no explanation.
- Château de Brissac, France
Unlike many other haunted places in Europe, Château de Brissac is home to only one ghost. Charlotte de Breze was caught having an affair one night and in a moment of rage, her husband Jacques proceeded to murder both her and her lover.
Charlotte’s ghost resides in the chateau, with her favourite spot being the tower room of the chapel.
